You are here. Here you are. Are you here?

The traditional saying on a map that locates the viewer's position, such as a mall directory (or picture of the galaxy), is "You are here."

Why are the words "are here" necessary? On the map at the mall, it doesn't say, "Sears is here" and "Dillard's is here." Why doesn't the red star or pointy arrow just say, "You"?

maybe people would assume that you are calling them a red dot?

But then why is the red dot so large? In Indiana I'm sure there are people that make the dot "drawn to scale", but not everyone.
