Willie McGee is sad.

Pujols injured, maybe six weeks. (Nice to know that your league-leader in HRs can't make the ESPN front page until he gets injured.) Rolen makes uncharacteristic errors. Cards lose first series at New Busch. (We knew it wouldn't last forever, but still.) All this misfortune at the hands of the much-hated and much-loved rival Cubs. (Who happen to be in last place in the division.) This is when a baseball fan says, "It's a long season." Cardinal Nation says, "We battled injuries last year and still won 100 games." Which is all true and stuff but well, ouch.

Ahem. The Cubs are not in last place. They are currently two games from last place. The Cubs would need to win 30 of their next 35 games to get close to the top.

The difference between the Cubs with stars on the DL and the Cards with stars on the DL is the management, which is why the Cards will probably continue to do well without Pujols, Edmonds, and Carpenter.

Sorry, somebody else called them the "last place Cubs," and I didn't check. The Pirates really do suck harder than anybody. When Rolen got hurt last year, TWICE, I despaired mightily, but it seems like the guys have the character to pull through this kind of thing.

They still know how to play small ball and aren't like a fat-assed AL club with the DH on the DL. Woot! NL FTW! You can quote me on that one, baby. Fuck the Red Sox.

I feel so cleansed.
