Word of the day: rowel.

I've been around horses a lot, thanks to my sister who's crazy about 'em. I love horses. I've worn the boots and gotten the saddle sores, but never been lucky enough to wear chaps or spurs. Jeopardy taught me what the rotating part at the end of the spur is called.

ROWEL: (la rodaja or la estrella) the disk or star set in the end of the spur's shaft or post, which turns as the rider's heel touches the horse's sides.
