Word of the day: polymath.

Another word for the oft-heard "Renaissance man" is polymath.

A polymath (also known as a polyhistor) is a person who excels in multiple fields, particularly in both arts and sciences.
Curiously, I found this applied to Melvin van Peebles at Metacritic, although I admit I don't know much about Melvin or his math skills. How can you pass up a movie review for "How to Eat Your Watermelon in White Company (and Enjoy It)"?

He is the father of Mario van Peebles. You should check out the pseudo-documentary Baadasssss! (aka How to Get the Man's Foot Outta Your Ass) about Melvin van Peebles making Sweet Sweetback's Badass Song.
