Holidays, trees, and babies on spikes.

Those crazy Christians are all fired up again, launching boycotts like Scud missiles. Now they're upset about Wally World saying "happy holidays" instead of "merry christmas."

"It is insulting that Wal-Mart has chosen to ignore the reason for the season," Otterstad said. "Taking the word 'Christmas' out of the holiday implies there's something sinful about it. ... This is a part of our culture."
No, you moron, it implies that some people celebrate other holidays besides Christmas at the same time of year. It's not all about you, Mr. Christian. There are other religions too. They're saying that the phrase is excluding them, when in fact, it's including everybody. What a bunch of ninnies.

On the other hand, I agree that calling a Christmas tree a "holiday tree" is just plain stupid. That's like saying I've got a "holiday dredil." The tree is a sign of Christmas, and it's insulting and wrong to call it a "holiday" tree. I'll give 'em that much, just for factual accuracy. The guy who cut down the tree said:
"I'd have cut it down and put it through the chipper," Donnie Hatt told a Canadian newspaper. "If they decide it should be a holiday tree, I'll tell them to send it back. If it was a holiday tree, you might as well put it up at Easter."
I'm just talking basic facts here, because Jerry Falwell blew the whole thing out of proportion and decided it was "disenfranchising people of faith." Jerry knows that everybody that disagrees with him is attacking his beliefs. This is using the same template the Republicans use: "If you disagree with me, you're un-American."

If you disagree with Shocho, then you put babies on spikes. So watch those comments.
"Hi! I'm Crazy Eddie! I put babies on spikes. Do you want a rack of babies? We've got babies on racks! Mmm, they taste of chicken!"

To clarify, only the neocons and the well-paid pundits are terribly concerned with labelling those who disagree with the Bush Administration as traitors or un-American. And if these Christians did their research, they'd realize that Christmas is a thin Christian boilerplate applied to a pagan holiday that has since become one of the biggest stimuli to the economy of the developed nations of the world.

I'm 100% in agreement with your analysis: "Holiday tree" = "stupid" = "anger over the phrase 'Happy holidays.'"

There was a great clip on The Daily Show last week showing Bill O'Reilly going ape-shit over the phrase "Happy Holidays," then turning around and claiming he didn't understand how *anyone* could take offense at being told "Merry Christmas."

Apparently, two words can't possibly be offensive unless they offend you.

I, for one, prefer the Muslims.

One of the primary differences in religion between Christianity and Islam is the possibility for others to believe otherwise. In other words, to most Christians (at least, the overly religious ones), if you're not Christian, you're a heathen. To most Muslims (same), if you're not a Muslim, you might be right. Who knows?

I've heard my boss and co-workers wish people a Merry Christmas quite often, it's just a natural thing. It had nothing to do with the fact that they don't get down on that Jesus guy, but that they know other people do, and respect that.

Besides, Christmas isn't entirely a religious holiday anymore. Heck, if it's a national holiday, it can't be, can it? Separation of church and state?

I think Christmas is too complex an entity to have been created randomly. It must be some sort of intelligent design...
