You don't change the rules when you're winning.
I have trouble reporting this with a straight face, but it's true. The former "Global War On Terrorism" is being renamed the "Global Struggle Against Violent Extremism." Ostensibly because GSAVE sounds better than GWOT. If you can't win the war, then just don't call it a war anymore. Ignore the fact that it was stupid to say "War on Terrorism" in the first place. Just as stupid as saying "War on Poverty" or "War on Drugs." Americans want everything in black and white, winners and losers, put the points up on the scoreboard when the game is over. But sometimes politics don't work that way.
Let me provide another example. For two years, my fantasy football team set the mark for lack of acheivement, even being the first in that keeper league's history to go 0-13, winless for an entire season. (The final stretch was 0-18.) After two years of this futlity, I declared that, "The Thunderbolts will never have a record like this again. I'm changing the name of the team to The Ducks." And lo, the problem was solved. Little did I know that such clever strategies would be used by the government of the United States. With a straight face.

If this is real -- conspicuously absent was the link, and you're The Link Guy -- then at least, maybe, we're getting a little sanity back? Even if via shady, questionable means?
Or is it an attempt to sidestep the Geneva convention criticisms in Guantanamo? "It's not a war so the convention doesn't apply here."
Okay, for the second time today: The headline is a link. I honestly didn't realize that was not obvious. Sorry for the confusion.
I don't think it's a sign of sanity to redefine the rules of a game that you are losing. However, your mileage may vary.
Alright, just like the big boys, I have added a "Link" link at the bottom of each article so that nobody will miss these links anymore. Now, if only I could make it so all the headlines didn't turn into links... :P
Where I work GWOT stand for Giant Waste Of Time so perhaps they were trying to clear up the confusion.
