How can Firefox be so good and still be free?

Mozilla is making money, just not from users like you and I. Personally, I'm glad they are, since a better product (that I'm using right now) is the result.

Yep it's I think unprecedented for an open source project like us. [He's referring to $55 million that Firefox made last year.] Of course currently that money comes into the corporation as taxable so you don't get that much of it, but nevertheless it was unexpected and very welcome and it allows us to do many things which is important because the browser is so fundamental to the Internet.
Did they "sell out" when they got big contracts with search engines? I use those search engines too, so I can't see this as anything but win-win all around. Assuming that said contracts maintain some integrity on the part of the Firefox designers. So far, so good. I can't recommend Firefox highly enough.

I will second that. I've used firefox since version 0.7 and I love it. The biggest thing I liked at first was that it worked exactly the same on a Mac and in Windows, IE didn't do that.

Now there are a ton of features I love.

I had once decried Firefox as crap because I was having a lot of problems with it. It has become my browser of choice although I much prefer the implementation of opening new tabs on IE over what Firefox does.
