Truthiness right in the face.

Stephen Colbert was invited to speak at the White House Press Corps fete the other night, along with Your President George Bush. Again, I ask: What were they thinking? Don't they even watch his show?

Never breaking character during the 20-minute production, Stephen layed into the Bush administration for lying and the WHPC for being complicit. I've seen the video, and the room did not appreciate this treatment. Which I think was fucking awesome.

The fallout today seems to indicate that the WHPC has officially decided not to comment on Colbert's Report, and when pressed they say it "wasn't entertaining." Wrong. It was. They just think they were the butt of the joke. Oh wait... they were. That's the funny part. Kudos to you, Stephen Colbert!

I thought it was freaking funny. They really looked annoyed.

I enjoyed it. Now, he did just go and insult most of the people there, but as you said, "What were they expecting?"

I think you guys are fooling yourself if you believe this was a surprise to the event planners. I would be amazed if they didn't watch every televised minute that he's ever done prior to this invitation.

Given the reactions of most people (especially the snub by Lara Bush), I certainly don't think most of the audience expected him to do his usual schtick, even if whoever invited him did.

A lot of the problem probably comes from the fact that is a tradition to get roasted, and the things that are currently noteable about Bush are really hard to translate into anything "funny". No matter who you bring in is either going to do a shitty job roasting him, or say a lot of things that nobody there wanted to be reminded of.

No, it wasn't shitty, it was funny as hell, I saw it. The crowd didn't like it, but there was no problem with the material. Great stuff.

Some of the crowd liked it. Who else is laughing?

There's footage on YouTube of a camera trained on the Prez throughout the routine. He didn't like it!

Makes note to read IQM more often so I don't blog the same thing days later like I did. Mine had an extra video so ya boo sucks.
