We give up.
Two of us live in this house, and there are three things we want to watch on television at the same time. Law & Order, one of LWC's faves, has been moved to 9 pm, directly up against Lost and Veronica Mars. Since Lost first aired, LWC and I have watched it together. We don't do that with any other show but 24.
Now, we are both so disgusted with this counterprogramming that we've deserted Lost. I'm watching Veronica Mars and she's watching Law & Order. Frankly, I'm disgusted with the lack of answers on Lost.
(Before you even get started, we don't want a Tivo or DVR. We just want to watch television.)

Yeah, Monday during 24 and Wednesday during Lost can both blow me.
On Monday, I want to watch 24, The Apprentice, and (because I have a small child and I think the stuff she does works) Super Nanny.
On Wednesday, I want to watch Lost, Veronica Mars, and I wouldn't mind seeing Law and Order either.
Could I note that there is nothing on the hour preceeding either of those hours that I want to watch? There's nothing on Friday, Saturday, or Sunday that I want to watch at all.
I have a damn TiVo and I still have trouble on both nights, because of the third program on both nights. I can watch one thing and TiVo another, but I frakking refuse to set a VCR for the third. They can either move the shows to time slots without any good programming or I'm just gonna miss the shit and too damn bad for them.
In fact, due to all that counter-programming, all the networks can suck it. If torrents downloaded in anything less than a milennium, I would avail myself of that option without any guilt whatever.
I watch everwood. Now it's against 24. Oh well. Nothing beats jack. Not even death.
Doesn't this kind of programming seem like a stupid thing to do? For example, Veronica Mars is struggling in the ratings, and may not make it to the UPN/WB merger network. Why have it up against the two biggest shows on that night? Where is the sense in that? I can understand ABC and NBC playing chicken, but how can UPN think they have a chance?
I think show that have a similar audience need to be on different nights. But they always think compentition at the same time is good. It's so asnine.
"we don't want a Tivo or DVR. We just want to watch television"
What this says is that you want to watch COMMERCIALS.
If you guys/gals REALLY want to stick it to them, you don't ignore their shows, you watch their shows without paying for them -- that is you TiVO the heck out of things and then make SURE you skip every advertisement.
How will they know I'm skipping every advertisement? Are they watching through my living room window?
I don't like the way Tivo updates their software, taking away privileges like Apple does with iTunes.
Besides, I don't want the extra hassle, I just want to watch TV a couple nights a week.
Veronica Mars is moving to Tuesdays starting April 11. So stop bitching about it.
Well, it's nice to see that UPN has a brain, but now you have to use your connections to move Law & Order and Lost apart. But thanks anyway.
I had such dread at first, reading about VM's move to Tuesdays. You see, nearly the only "don't want to miss it" show that I watch during the week (which currently isn't, by some miracle, on against every other show I think is worth spending my time on) is Gilmore Girls.
However, after a little digging (you'd be surprised how many stories mention VM is moving to Tuesdays but didn't say which timeslot) UPN is not counter-programming GG and VM. They will be airing back to back, giving me two hours of TV goodness on Tuesdays.
Here's a big shoutout to that two-headed UPN/WB snake that's about to lop off one of those heads. Thanks for not screwing me!
I admit, although I might therefore lose a "Quien es mas macho?" contest, that I have watched the Gilmore Girls and thought it was pretty good.
