I love WizKids.

I've had a great time here working at WizKids for a few months. Here are some of the highlights.

The offices are great. Open cubicles for discussion (and the occasional Nerf gunfight... I never became a combatant, and my neutrality was well-respected). The lobby is filled with big glass cases showcasing the company's products. Four, count 'em four, spacious conference rooms, including one with lots of multimedia capabilities (that's where we watch Friday's BSG every Monday at lunch).

In a brainstorming meeting with the CEO, it was refreshing to see him talk about the kind of game he wanted to play, as opposed to the kind of game he wanted to sell. This is a company whose management understands their customers and what they want.

When somebody suggested that a licensed movie product be produced for one of the proprietary universes here, it was roundly shouted down. The suggestion was made that the idea should be posted on the forums to see how much the fans would hate it. It's great to have your own property that fans love so much they don't want that movie crap tainting it.

The people I'm working with... hell, all the people in the office here are friendly, kind, fun, passionate, and hard-working. It's a great environment to be a part of. They have adopted me as one of their own.

It occurred to me today that I used to mention my blog in conversation at That Other Company, and when I finally sent my co-workers the link, we found it was a fun way to stay in touch. Some of them even made blogs of their own (don't cost nothin'). So today I'm gonna tell the WizKids folks too. Maybe some of them will join us here in the Blogosphere (hate that word).

Didn't I shoot you with a Nerf gun on your first or second day?

Not that I recall. People have been very careful, including banking shots off the ceiling, in respecting my neutrality. I really wanted a blue helmet with UN on it, but couldn't find one.

I often wonder how much time this collectible gaming genre has left.
