Saw Serenity again yesterday.
When I mentioned to Tee online that we were going to see Serenity again this weekend, Tom said, "It's been a long time since I've heard that." People don't often go to see a film multiple times in the theater anymore. It was much more common before VCRs and DVDs and Blockbuster and OnDemand, of course. Serenity was stuck in one of the smallest theaters at the AMC 18. Only seven rows of seats. Tee and Mike B. showed up first and got seats in the back row, and I asked them if they were trying to make it seem like a real theater.
I was emotionally wrenched and drained afterwards just like I was the first time. What a wonderful movie. What a beautiful exclamation point on the whole saga. What a shame that it was too smart to make money.

The whole thing might remind one (a LOT) of WARS. Future plot, multiple factions, good backstory, multiple layers, and then...
the market doesn't seem to totally "take" to it.
There is no comparison. We wanted to make WARS a lot more like Firefly/Serenity, a believable future.
What we got was faceless floating fish and naked crabs firing multicolored laser blasts at rolling pokeballs and Scorpion Clan Samurai.
Serenity did not remind me of WARS, not even one tiny little bit.
Sorry to hear it.
But with all due respect, you're not giving yourself enough credit.
I don't personally think lack of credit is the issue. Change credit to fault, and add "someone else's" to the front of it, and you get closer to the gist of things.
Of course, that is my own opinion, not necessarily shared by the owners of this station. :)
Couldn't have said it better myself, Kathy.
Was reacting to "Serenity did not remind me of WARS, not even one tiny little bit." (emphasis on *not even one tiny bit*)
It felt too self-deprecating and hyperbolic (IMHO)
There were some great things in WARS, and that came through.
Didn't mean to denegrate Serenity (or Firefly) in the least.
Just found some of the parallels notable, and those parallels allow me to appreciate each of the two pieces that much more.
Oh, don't get me wrong. There are some good things in Wars that apparently were missed when the rest of the good things were being stomped out of existence.
After all, even Godzilla missed a few buildings on his rampages.
