No Whammies, Big Money.
I gotta find a video somewhere of the landmark episode of Press Your Luck. It was actually broadcast, wasn't it?
Who in their right mind would risk so much money so fucking often? In the history of game shows to this point, there had never been anyone this lucky. The more money he accumulated and risked against Whammies, the more he looked like an insane gambling addict totally out of control.Michael Larsen is the guy that figured out the sequence and broke the game, although his final fate was less than stellar. Too bad, he would have made a terrific playtester.

I only saw him on some sort of "secrets revealed" show, but it was 2 hours and had a lot of clips.
Game Show Network frequently runs that "expose" show about that guy.
The lesson here, that we all know so well, is that if your game is broken, your players WILL eventually discover it.
I remember watching his episodes when they originally aired. I was something like 9 years old at the time. Even at that age, I could start to see something of a pattern and wondered if I could make big bucks if I got on the show.
