"Violent" stampede for cheap laptops.

Dr. Heimlich tipped us off about this, but the result was nothing short of pandemonium. (Is there ever a non-violent stampede?)

People threw themselves forward, screaming and pushing each other. A little girl’s stroller was crushed in the stampede. Witnesses said an elderly man was thrown to the pavement, and someone in a car tried to drive his way through the crowd.
I knew you people hated your Wintel machines, but my God, there's no need for this kind of behavior.

"It's rather strange that we would have such a tremendous response for the purchase of a laptop computer — and laptop computers that probably have less-than- desirable attributes."

Well, yeah, they're Apples, isn't "less than desirable Apple" as redundant as it gets?.

In retrospect, they should have set a higher price. I wonder what percentage of that mob would have been willing to pay, say, $100 for the laptop? I'd bet they could still have sold them all, made twice as much money, and had less of a stampede to deal with.

I hate to sound like a Cub fan, but wait 'til next year ... when the far better Intel mobile chips find their way into Apple laptops.

For $50 I could learn to love an iBook.

Just the link tag, CK.

Here is about the least complicated explanation of it that I could find. It's quite easy once you learn the syntax.

(Stop reading the page I linked below where they start talking about "The destination anchor of a link may be..." That's where it gets more complex than you need to know before you can start making basic links.)

Someone tried to drive a car into the crowd and wasn't arrested, plus a guy felt justified hitting others with a chair because he was there first and they tried to cut in. Does anyone remember what life was like before Thatcher & Reagan? You know, when respect for each other was more important that getting a bargain? I'm amazed and disgusted by this article.
