I want Fredbird's car.

They're building a new stadium for the St. Louis Cardinals, and Busch Stadium will soon be torn down. Which means there's a sale of all kinds of things from there. I have lots of fond memories of Busch, even from before I was a sports fan.

Kids who got straight A's on their report cards in the St. Louis area used to get "Straight A Tickets" to baseball games, and I would go just to sit in the stadium for a while for fun. I got tickets from the place I used to work, great tickets near first base down low, and had the pleasure of seeing Fredbird (the Cardinals mascot) "eat" my son's head.

Fredbird once spoke to me, as I sat on the grass near the Arch, holding a corn of cob on a stick. He said to me, "Nice corn." He had a silly little car that he'd do a lap of the stadium in, often with Cardinals patriarch August Busch on board. The old Auggie Busch that we liked, not the smarmy IV version in the commercials. Anyway, I'm sure the new stadium will be nice, but I'm sorry to see Busch go.

I tried to sneak into Bush one time when it was closed [I've snuck into my share of closed stadiums] but was shoo'ed off by a pesky security guard.

Alls I know is that new stadium down there looks really schweet. I'll have to pay a visit when the Cubs come into town next year.

I had my head eaten by Fredbird?

God I wish I remembered that...

Anyway, I have seen my game this year, in the last go-round. I had the distinct pleasure of seeing Mark Grudzielanik hit for the cycle, so it was special for several reasons.

Next season, I will go to see a game at the new stadium. I'll let you all know. :)
