Self portrait.

tanlines

This is the first picture of myself I have ever posted to my blog. It shows the tan lines on my feet. I have been wearing sandals since I got laid off. LWC noticed the tan lines, and I thought I'd share. I've never owned a pair of sandals before but obviously this pair I've worn a lot during my afternoon walks.

Afternoon walks are one of the things I do to push away the bad thoughts. I'm still on the roller coaster, and some days are better than others. For what it's worth, I get depressed for more like half a day now than a whole day. I have found lots of ways to escape the bad feelings. Sometimes it hits me when I'm tired, like it's a predator stalking me that can only catch up when I'm winded.

Lots of basic skills are lost when you're laid off. My driving is pretty damned dangerous, since I've gone from about 100 miles a week down to 5. Yesterday I decided that my flat feet were aggravated by the cheap sandals, so I decided to wear shoes (gasp) for the first time since Origins, almost a month. I COULDN'T FIND MY SHOES! Not for some time. Jesus H. Christ! Sometimes I think I have lost the ability to go to work at all. I hope this is like falling off a bicycle, that you never really forget how.

I have to apologize for posting one of the two ugliest parts of the human body. Nobody tried to guess what the other ugliest part of the human body was last time I mentioned this, obviously terrified of a discussion about Naughty Bits. The other ugly part is, in fact, the ear. Ears and feet, those are the worst.

One more thing about this post. It was much cleverer and funnier before a telemarketer called me yesterday. She argued with me about how great her job was and how she wasn't wasting her company's time talking to me when I'd already told her I didn't want her financial advice. She made me so mad that I forgot most of the funny stuff to go in this post. So you'll have to imagine it as much funnier than this.

You have beautiful feet and wonderful ears. Your skilled driving will lead you to a small fortune.

Whoo hoo! I'm buying a Lotto ticket today. I can be lucky like Hollywood's old friend.

No Chinese word, though, hm.

I'm sure I haven't forgotten how to fall off a bicycle. Riding one might be more problematic, as may be remembering how to go to work. Guess I'll find out Monday... about the work, not the bicycle.

You must have some kind of weird foot fetish. I mean, your avatar is a picture of a shoe, isn't it? That seems significant somehow.

I find the abandoned shoe pictures interesting because a) a shoe without its mate is lonely, and b) a shoe without its owner is also lonely. I find my own feet in particular interesting because they're so far away but they're still mine. I like things I don't understand. Hope that helps.

Except for that little head shot directly to the left of this post.

And I know what it's like to forget how to work. I think I still have, and I've been at the new job for two months.

Technically, Mr. Smarty Pants, I posted that to Flickr. Hah! Take that!
