More Origins Stuff.
Of course, the blog puts latest first, so you'll read this before the other one, but you know how it works.
We enjoyed meet and greet with the usual con folks, like Richard Borg, Mike Stackpole, Andy Lupp, John Kaufeld, Trevor, Jason, Dawn, Mike G, Bojo, Scott Gaeta, and the Colsons. Always a nice time. Also saw some of our old friends from St. Louis and Ft. Wayne. And some of the old Decipher grognards.
Left resumes with a number of companies, and also got contact information for freelance proposals for a boardgame, card game, and roleplaying adventure I have designed and laying around the house.
Gave a .hack//ENEMY demo to a cute young couple that loved the anime but just found the game. Gave a Rings demo to one of those company reps I left a resume with. That was a blast.
Attendance was definitely down at Origins this year, no matter what they say. And the dealer room wasn't full, either. Decipher's downsized booth was the second biggest at the con (behind WizKids), and larger than Wizards. In fact, the Wizards booth had only their CMGs and no TCG demos. Weird.
Oh yeah, and got two games I've been wanting for a long time, Gloom and Wooly Bully (aka La Guerre des Moutons), the latter of which we brought from a genyouwyne French guy. Who said my pronunciation was good. And was trying to sell me something, I admit. LWC also bought a couple of Zatchbell "decks," which is a weird game.
Including the burger lunch today at Damons, I think I talked to everybody I wanted to talk to and did everything I wanted to do at Origins 2005.

You really should watch Fullmetal Alchemist. It's good. I belive they'll start over with Ep1 a week from Monday.
What no shout out to the Hayden? ;)
He's now become "The Hayden"? And what's up with the picture of the third arm growing out of your head?

This is Jason's subtle way of saying, "You didn't mention the FMA demo I gave you!" Other than the fact that I evidently broke the demo because I attacked the little guy, it went pretty well. The mechanics are sound, and the wording and conventioning in particular were very good. I need to see more cards before I make a real assessment.

Props to Doctor Guy, yes I'm sorry I forgot you. HWC was there, showing off his shifting allegiance by wearing a different game company's shirt every day.
...which is a hell of a lot better than Helge Blohmer, ripping off his shirt while working the booth at Essen.
What kind of gamer changes his shirt everyday?
Hayden, you sir, are NO Helge Blohmer.
i enjoyed seeing you multiple times chuck and I wish I could have sat down with you more outside of the con halls. I'm glad you made some contacts I hope they come through for you, it would be a shame for this industry to lose a great man.
My god, did Helge do that?
He did... it was when he left his demo decks (loaded with rares and a Future Enterprise) on the booth unattended, and they were stolen. (This after all volunteers were specifically told to be responsible for their own things.)
He demanded that Decipher replace all the valuable lost cards. When he was refused, he tore off his Ambassador shirt and threw it down on the ground, spouting some crap about "no longer wanting to be associated with the company."
If only he'd meant it.
Sigh, what an image that has left. Apart from the fact that I may not be able to hold onto my dinner - I wish I'd seen that.
