I ate lunch at Chili's with some fellow layoffees, then went home, called family. Then there was a missing two or three hour period I really can't remember well before a small throng of folks came over for 24 that night.
I really wish I was nearby now to offer some comfort the way you and LWC did to me when it was my turn through the layoff gauntlet. My thoughts are definitely with you, and I hope you'll soon be on to better things.
You have my condolences. I can't remember what I did the day I was "let go". I was probably too excited about the prospect of spending a large amount of time with my daughter.
I have made it almost to 40 with never having been laid off (except for that weird babysitting job I did once where I got fired because the kid found the butcher knives while I slept). Go figure. So, it's difficult to put myself in your pajamas. (A visual we can all move away from, thankfully.)
Anyway, I was stunned and saddened to see you go. You have always been the first association I have had with this company. This is the third set of layoffs I've survived and I'm not sure who's the more fortunate. I think a mistake (several) might have been made today.
I spent the day seaching for jobs on the internet and getting my resume together. Looking back, I could of done that the next day but for some reason I felt like I HAD to do something the day I got laid-off. It also had happened so early in the morning that I actually went home and ate a breakfast type of food.
Actually I felt I "had to do something" even though the book I got said you should take a couple days off. After watching the movie, I applied for unemployment (another first for me). Last night, LWC said, "You're on vacation for two days, but you start your new job Monday." Meaning my new job is finding my new job, of course.
Hey, today's Friday the 13th! My lucky day! Maybe I should buy a lottery ticket...
I also took the opportunity to get some food in before 2pm. Then I played Playstation briefly, contacted a number of fellow and past lay-offees throughout the afternoon, and decided I wasn't going to do anything constructive until Monday. I went to bed early (for me) with a smile on my face.
Maybe I'm being naive but I'm excited about this new beginning. There's much I'm glad to leave behind. Tonight I celebrate with beer!
the first time...I ate A LOT of ice cream and decided to move home. The second time I ate A LOT of ice cream and decided to move to Seattle. Now I have to survive in a place that has changed more than I thought possible. I miss you all. Thanks for the games, laughs, encouragement and friendship. I hope life brings you bright big beautiful new adventures and opprotunities. Even in the short time I had with you, I learned a lot. THANK YOU. I miss Attika already. Let me know if you are ever up for a game.

To be honest... I don't really remember. In shock, I suppose.
But since then, I've watched a lot of movies, Star Trek DVDs, and HGTV. Still doing so.

Then I took off my pants and put on pajamas, and growled out loud in my best Lewis Black voice, "Cause when you're unemployed, you don't wear pants."
Really? That means watching HGTV in my pjs is OK? And here I thought I was just being lazy.
Yeah, you should listen to all of Lewis Black's albums today. That should shake any excess anger out of you.

:(
My first time at 50, a layoff virgin. Thanks, Mark.
Still a virgin here, too...uh, layoff virgin, that is. I'm more of the runaway bride type.
Sorry to hear, Chuck. Now they might have just enough designers left to re-release Scratchees: Second Edition.
That came off sounding crappy, sorry. Thanks much for the kind words, Mark. :)
