Security device enclosed.
Sure, I remove the tape that I find on three edges of the DVDs I buy. You do too, or you couldn't get the thing open. Even if they don't have the tape, they have the little plastic black magnetic thing (the actual "security device enclosed") inside, stuck to the case. I always take them off and throw them away. I hate them.
They say to me, "You tried to steal this, didn't you?" They say this to everyone who buys any DVD. They assume that we are all thieves, in the same way that the airports assume that we are all terrorists. I fucking hate that.
I remember when innocent came before guilty. I remember when safe came before afraid. I remember when peace came before war.

If I ever have a rock band or make a movie I will name it "Security Device Enclosed"
I think, although my better sense tells me to keep my politics to myself, that we are in a phase not unknown to human history where power is not being brokered via charisma or competency, but through fear.
We don't trust our leaders, per se, but enough of our fellow citizens are afraid of the bogeyman they tell us is under the bed that they vote for them that they figure it's better to be safe than sorry.
Very well said indeed, Kathy.
I've never seen a time like this before. When I was growing up (still not done with that yet), we were told that we were safe, and government would keep us that way. Now, we are told that our lives are constantly in danger, and the only thing that can protect us is government.
Probably both viewpoints are less than true, but one is fear mongering and one is leadership.
In the United States, before Reagan's concept of the "Evil Empire" that he used to scare us into larger defense budgets.
