Let's talk about last night's 24.

For those of you who didn't get my subtle inference last week, SPOILER WARNING! STOP READING! TURN OFF YOUR COMPUTER! GOUGE YOUR EYES OUT!

I didn't like last week's 24. They tried a dirty trick to get me to like this week's 24, and after some reflection, It's not working.

Here's the scam. Character A used to do job A in a previous season, and you liked that character. In a later season, Character B replaces Character A. Character B is an incompetent gutless whiny boob. Did you get that? Watch again next week and we'll show you once more. See the incompetence? Annoyed yet? Ratings sagging? Bring back Character A! Thrilling reunion. Character A will now save the day.

This is like a CCG that gives you 410 cards without game text, and then when you get 10 with game text, you're supposed to think it's God's Gift to Cardboard. (This is known as the "Battle of Naboo Effect.")

Edgar and Chloe. Veep Guy and Palmer. Boring. Can't they think up anything new? All they can do is recycle characters? It's bad enough that this summer I have to put up with This Movie 2 and This Movie 9 and This Old Sci-Fi Book Now A Movie. I HATE RETREADS!

Chinese movies still put me to sleep though, even if they're not sequels or remakes.

So, what you're saying here is that you don't want to see Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy? ;p

Noticed that reference there, did ya? Nah, like Sin City, Hitchhiker's is something I dearly loved in its previous incarnations, and it'll be a joy to see it again. Kinda ruins my whole argument, doesn't it?

This ain't the best season of 24 by any means, but last year took everyone to such a dark place that this year seems to be all about getting the old crew back together. Like a prequel, I'm enjoying the HOW of all that much more than the actual plot.
